PRINTING PRESS (KANTIPUR PUBLICATION)

Kantipur publications have their printing presses in various locations. This site was located near the highway in Biratnagar, Nepal. The peculiar point about the site was that it was 6 feet below the highway level. So, we had to plan for 7 feet filling of earth before any superstructure could come up.

There are multiple activities happening in a press simultaneously. All processes of operations needed to be clearly understood and worked out in proper flow and sequence. Therefore , the layout had to be functionally perfect. Here, the principal of “Form follows function” was rigidly applicable. However, a flavour of modernity had to be added.

The layout of the press has been evolved through a process flow chart based on the operations of a printing press. For industrial part standard, economic and safe construction method have been proposed in the design. However, to add the modernity flavour, the office has been given an International look. It is frequently visited by foreign delegations. The entrance has been highlighted with a soaring element and a world map over it.
